Nevada State Employees Gain Collective Bargaining Rights

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak has signed into law a historic bill granting 20,000 state workers the right to collectively bargain.

The bill, which he signed Wednesday, is the largest expansion of collective bargaining rights for state workers anywhere in the U.S. in 16 years, and it will position those workers to better fight a rigged economy that favors the wealthy.

Union Membership Hits Home for Local 1303 Scholarship Winners

Congratulations are in order for the eight winners of the 2019 AFSCME Local 1303 College Scholarships. These scholars are ready to take the next step toward their higher education, aided by a $1,000 award from Local 1303, which represents more than 7,000 municipal and board of education employees across Connecticut.

Standing Up for Workers’ Rights at the State Capitol

With the legislature drawing closer to its adjournment, Council 4 members made their voice heard in support of workers’ rights at the State Capitol in Hartford.

Interim Telework Agreement Is Reached Through State Union Coalition

The State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) has reached an interim agreement with the state Executive Branch that makes telecommuting a bargaining right for many state employees.

This is an interim document stemming from the 2017 SEBAC savings and job protection agreement.

It's also further proof that collective bargaining makes a difference when it comes to empowering state workers to get their jobs done.

Remembering Our Veterans

Council 4 union members showed their appreciation to state military veterans by holding our 16th annual Council 4 Veterans Picnic on May 25, 2019 at the State Veterans Home and Health Care Facility in Rocky Hill.

Every year Council 4 kicks off the Memorial Day holiday weekend with a huge barbeque prepared and served by union volunteers. 

 The picnic has special meaning for members like Dwight “DJ” Frederick, a retired Army veteran who has done two tours of duty in the Middle East.
