Become A Council 4 Member!

Council 4 represents 30,000 state, muncipal, board of education and private sector non-profit workers in Connecticut. Together we have a powerful voice to protect our jobs, pay, benefits, working conditions and the vital services our members provide.

  • Union membership helps us build a strong and united voice for public service and the services we provide.
  • Union membership gives you the right to participate in decisions that impact you at your job.
  • Union membership gives you a voice and the opportunity to participate in the democratic governance of the union, including contract ratification and officer elections.
  • Union membership gives you access to members-only benefits.

UNITY IS A STRONG DEFENSE

Are you concerned about what has happened to workers over the past few years?

Coordinated attacks on unions and workers’ rights, led. by corporate and wealthy special interests across the country, leave us vulnerable in Connecticut. We are at a crossroads. Either we unite and use our voice - and rights - to strengthen our union, or we may lose all we’ve gained:

  • Living wages
  • Basic union rights
  • Affordable health care
  • Decent retirement

PROTECT YOURSELF

Union members earn significantly higher wages and have dramatically increased access to healthcare and retirement benefits. (Click here for a short AFSCME video on the union difference.)

The best way to protect your pay, benefits and bargaining rights is to sign a recommit card. This ensures we have the resources and strength in numbers to fully represent your interests.

To join Council 4 as a new member, or to recommit as a current member, please scroll down and click on the Membership Application. You can fill out everything but your signature online, so be sure to print out the application and sign it.

Once you have done this you can send it back it us using one of these options:

  • Return the card to your Local Union President or Council 4 Staff Representative.
  • Or, scan the recommit card, save it to your files and email it to [email protected].
  • Or, mail it to Council 4 AFSCME, 444 East Main St., New Britain, CT 06051, Attn - Kelly Martinez.

Thank you.
