Please join Council 4 and its New London-area affiliated unions in supporting members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated local unions at Yale-New Haven Health Systems (YNHHS), Lawrence + Memorial (L+M) Hospital and the Visiting Nurses Association of Southeastern Connecticut (VNASC).

These essential workers are rallying for safety, protection and respect in the workplace and raising awareness of health professionals’ concerns that without proper protective gear, communities are at risk.

CT Roundtable on Climate and Jobs Spring Gathering (Virtual)

Essential workers are on the frontlines of the coronavirus crisis, and their unions are organizing critical campaigns to demand protection and enhanced pay for all these “everyday heroes” who care for the sick, keep the buses running, or stock the grocery shelves.

The labor movement is working nonstop to protect the health and safety of all working people throughout Connecticut, and especially for essential workers who are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

May 18, 2020—With COVID-19 wreaking economic havoc and threatening vital public services, a diverse group of advocates that includes Council 4 called on elected officials to restore taxes on the wealthy to help mitigate the large deficits facing the state of Connecticut.

Advocates issued their call during a zoom press conference sponsored by Connecticut AFL-CIO. Speakers included Council 4 Secretary Stacie Harries-Byrdsong.

44th Annual AFSCME Convention (Virtual)

For the first time in our union’s history, AFSCME International will hold its biennial convention entirely online.

The International Executive Board voted in March to move the 44th International Convention from an in-person event to a virtual event on Aug. 13 and 14 and Sept. 2.

The event’s theme will be “Front-Line Heroes: Never Stronger.” Details of what the virtual convention will look like and the agenda are being finalized.
