44th AFSCME Convention (Virtual)

For the first time in our union’s history, AFSCME International will hold its biennial convention entirely online.

The International Executive Board voted in March to move the 44th International Convention from an in-person event to a virtual event on Aug. 13 and 14 and Sept. 2.

The event’s theme will be “Front-Line Heroes: Never Stronger.” Details of what the virtual convention will look like and the agenda are being finalized.

Council Delegates Meeting (Virtual)

Council 4 will hold a special Delegate Assembly meeting by zoom for the purpose of discussing/voting on candidate endorsements for the Aug. 11 primary.

We are sending out a zoom link to Delegates. If you are a Council 4 Delegate and you have questions, or have not received your link, please contact Megan Batchelder at [email protected]. Thank you.

With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to devastate the nation’s physical and fiscal health, U.S. Rep Jahana Hayes (CT-5) took time out to urge Council 4 members to make their voices heard in the fierce political battle to approve massive federal aid for states, cities and towns.

Speaking to Council 4’s biweekly Presidents Plus 1 meeting on Zoom earlier this month,  Hayes emphasized the importance of getting the HEROES Act, which passed the House in April, to clear the Senate.

The news media last week thrust state employees' contractual benefits into the spotlight following Governor Ned Lamont's public remarks at his daily COVD-19 (novel coronavirus) briefing. His comments further renewed attempts by Republican legislators to push for unlawfully breaking collective bargaining agreements.

Council 4 operations will be closed today in recognition of Juneteenth.

Known as Emancipation Day, Juneteenth, or Freedom Day – June 19 is a day of celebration commemorating the legal end of the inhumane enslavement of African Americans in the United States.
