HARTFORD, CT — The coalition of labor unions including the Connecticut AFL-CIO, Connecticut Education Association (CEA), State Employee Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC), and Connecticut Service Employee International Union State Council (CT SEIU State Council), released its second ad focusing on a People’s Recovery budget and standing in opposition to more billionaire bailouts. 

Frontline public employees featured in the ad include Department of Correction employees Sherine Bailey and Aimmee Reyes-Greaves of AFSCME Local 391 and Ginny Ligi of AFSCME Local 387.

Rally To Support Striking Backus Hospital Nurses

Join AFT-CT members and supporters to "walk the line" with Backus Hospital caregivers on strike over unfair labor practices by facility management and executives with Hartford HealthCare (HHC).

This rally on the first day of picketing will bring together health professionals, patients, families and advocates to "back us, back our nurses."

Trick Or Treat Movie Night: CANCELED

Due to anticipated inclement weather, Council 4 is postponing our Trick or Treat Drive-In Movie Night scheduled for Oct. 30, 2020.

Instead, we will sponsor a "Drive-by Goodie Bag Giveaway" outside our union hall in New Britain on Saturday, October 31, between 1-4:00 pm at Council 4.

Council 4 invites members & their families to our first Halloween drive-in movie night. Featured movie is "Hocus Pocus," starring Bette Midler.

AFSCME members in good standing are invited to attend any of our offered trainings that range in topics from how to effectively run a meeting to handling grievances and treasurer finances. 

All trainings are held via Zoom. Local officers, stewards, executive board members and other leaders are encouraged to attend. 

Treasurer's Training/Financial Standard Codes

Provides in-depth knowledge of the AFSCME Financial Standard Codes. The Code of the document that governs the handling of all union funds and assets. The maintenance of financial records; and decision regarding expenditures. Recommended for all Officers, Trustees, Executive Board Members

Grievance Training

This training will guide stewards and members through the steps of the grievance process. You will be provided with tools and skills that help you best represent members. If you are new to handling grievances or just brushing up on your skills, this class is for you.

Officer/Executive Board Training

This training will provide the tools and knowledge officers and board members need to lead a
strong, successful local/chapter. Topics include officer roles and responsibilities, conducting effective meetings, assessing your local and more.

Robert's Rules of Order Training

Knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order provides you with the tool to conduct productive meetings. You’ll learn the rules that govern meetings, including quorums, motions that brings business before membership.
