Council 4 AFSCME mourns the loss of Middletown police officer

On Sunday, Dec. 4, the Middletown Police Department announced that Officer Matt Silvestrini, who had fought a long battle with brain cancer, died Saturday.

Officer Silvestrini, a member of AFSCME Local 1361, leaves behind a wife and two children.

According to the Middletown Police Department Facebook post, Officer Silvestrini passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Iraq. He worked as a New Haven police officer before transferring to the Middletown in 2012. He was a member of the Emergency Response Team and Firearms Unit and was an instructor at the Middletown Police Department.
