The General Assembly adjourned its regular 2019 legislative session June 5, providing Council 4 and the labor movement with an opportunity to reflect on significant accomplishments:

Sgt. Charles Paris of the Bridgeport Police Department and Patrolman Blain Rogozinski of the New Britain Police Department have witnessed the psychological and emotional toll that is too often the by-product of working in law enforcement. 

“We’ve lost two officers in the last two years who committed suicide,” said Paris, president of AFSCME Local 1159.

“Nobody should go through what we see on a daily basis,” said Rogozinski, the president of AFSCME Local 1165.

July 18, 2019 -- SEBAC and the Lamont Administration have completed their discussions on pension re-amortization in accordance with the recently passed biennial budget and have reached an agreement. It keeps the parties’ commitment to make no change in pension benefits. 

Ledyard Youth Services Director Kate Sikorski calmly manages her many responsibilities with a little bit of help from an unlikely source: Lola, her family’s nine-year-old pit bull.

Lola provides a soothing presence for the individuals and families who turn to Sikorski for town-sponsored mental and behavioral health services that are in ever-higher demand.

“Lola is definitely a benefit,” Sikorski smiled. “She makes people more comfortable.”

With former Vice President Joe Biden confirming his participation on Tuesday, the AFSCME-sponsored presidential candidate forum on Aug. 3 will be the biggest event of its kind in our union’s history.

Seeking the same rights and protections that other employees have gained through unionization, 54 public service workers in Manchester joined the Council 4 union family.

Meet Uno, a 95-pound German shepherd and K-9 with the City of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Uno is much more than a dog or a pet to Marie Cetti, a Bridgeport police officer and K-9 handler. He is like her child, work partner and protector in one.
