Meet the New Officers of PEOPLE Statewide Steering Committee

The Council 4 PEOPLE Statewide Steering Committee has new leadership.

On June 17, members of the PEOPLE Committee gathered to nominate and elect five officers. Steve Wierbicki and Brian Cutler, members of Local 269 (State Dept. of Labor), were elected as the new Chair and Vice Chair.

As dedicated and active participants of our labor-to-labor election program, they will help lead the committee’s electoral efforts in interviewing and endorsing labor-friendly candidates. Regardless of the office they are running for, it is imperative for elected officials to support Council 4’s mission of protecting and expanding pay, retirement security, and healthcare.

“I am honored and privileged to serve as Chair of the Statewide Steering Committee,” said Weirbicki. “I look forward to working with a great team of our union members to get candidates elected who hold the values of a fair and equitable workplace for all workers.”

Together, Wierbicki and Cutler have phone banked and knocked countless doors of union members to provide useful candidate and voting information and mobilize member political participation.  Their years of experience will be an asset as the Council heads into municipal elections and prepares for next year’s statewide election, including the Governor’s race.

They are joined by Secretary Velisha Cloud (Local 3144/New Haven Managers), Treasurer Glen Guerra (Local 714/State Dept. of Social Services), Legislative Secretary Claudine Chambers (Local 3429/New Haven Paras).

Congratulations to all the new officers!
