WHO: Please join Backus Hospital Nurses (AFT Connecticut) for an informational picket, followed by a march and rally. Open to all Backus nurses and members of the community.

WHAT: The contract for Backus Hospital nurses expired and are nowhere near reaching an agreement. Backus nurses demand safe staffing, proper PPE to fight the pandemic, area standard wages to retain nurses, and adequate access to pumping rooms for new mothers. Instead of addressing these concerns, Hartford HealthCare proposes to get rid of overtime incentives and our wage scale, gut our health insurance, and no guaranteed 401(k) contributions.

WHY: Show solidarity for fellow union members fighting for fairness. Hartford HealthCare praised them as "heroes" in slick, expensive ads; now the network's executives are treating their nurses like “zeroes" at the bargaining table. 

WHEN: Sunday, August 9th. Beginning at 1:00PM; picketing until 3:30PM followed by short march and rally at 4:00PM.

WHERE: Picketing outside William Backus Hospital, located at 326 Washington Street in Norwich (right off Route 2); march to the Chelsea Parade Park, located at 212 Washington Street, for the rally.
