SEBAC Event: Fight For Moral Budget & Strong Contracts!
2022 poses difficult challenges for state workers, but if we fight for a moral budget we can move our state in a more racially and economically equitable direction. Come and learn how together we can win or make progress on all of these fights!
Topics to be discussed include: racial justice, fair contracts, 2022 and Boston Consulting Group report, pending budget issues (federal money i.e. hazard pay and workers compensation presumption). Actions and ways to engage in these issues will also be shared.
Workers Memorial Day
Join us as we honor the lives of workers who died on the job, including Council 4 member Eleanor DeShields a Bridgeport paraprofessional (Local 1522) who contracted COVID while working at her school. Live stream will be available on our Facebook page for those who wish to watch virtually.
Rally for Fully Funded CT DOL
WHAT: Rally for a fully funded Labor Department, for community members experiencing wage theft and unemployment. Members of Local 269 and Unidad Latina en Accion are collaborating on this Recovery For All CT coalition event.

BoE union coalition convening
The voices of Board of Education (BOE) union members will continue to be critical in ensuring our schools are safe and fully-funded. We will review ongoing health and safety issues and current legislative proposals impacting educational personnel. Opportunities for how you and your co-workers can take action will be explored to secure policies beneficial to union members, students, and communities.
Training Part IV: Moving Workers to Action (4-part series)
This session includes best practices for approaching new hires, identifying leaders, and mobilizing members to build power in the workplace. Supercharge your grievances! Direct action strategies and tactics to mobilize members to resolve workplace problems. Building union members sense of their own power and understanding through experience that they are the union. All trainings are through Zoom.
Training Part III: Documenting and Writing a Grievance (4-part series)
Marshalling your evidence, asking the right questions, union requests for information and documentation to the employer, organizing your file, building a strong case, anticipating the employer’s arguments, preparing for a strong presentation, and guiding the grievant through the process. All trainings are through Zoom. Shortly after registration is received you will receive a Zoom invitation specific to your selected training(s).
Training Part II: Five Steps of Grievance Handling (4 - part series)
This training includes identifying grievances, an overview of the 5 steps of the grievance process, and a deep dive into investigating grievances. Asking the right questions, meeting timelines, fulfilling the duty of fair representation, guiding the grievant through the process, an overview of the whole process with tips for success. All trainings are through Zoom. Shortly after registration is received you will receive a Zoom invitation specific to your selected training(s).
Training Part l: Roles and Responsibilities of Officers and Stewards (4 part Series)
This training will walk stewards those that need a refresher and new, through their various roles when acting in a steward capacity and how to identify if a grievance exists. Tips, tools, and strategies for being a great steward. The equality doctrine and the legal rights of union stewards. All trainings are through Zoom. Shortly after registration is received you will receive a Zoom invitation specific to your selected training(s).
