Rally to save local news and the Hartford Courant

In Feb. 2019, the journalists at the Hartford Courant formed a union to preserve and strengthen their newspaper after many years of devastating cuts. But two years after organizing, they still don’t have a contract and the Courant is now at risk of being sold to Alden Global Capital, a hedge fund with a reputation for destroying local papers.

The Courant NewsGuild is rallying to draw attention to the crisis facing the newspaper. Hartford and Connecticut need the Courant!

National Law Enforcement Candlelight Vigil (Virtual)

Every year we honor the fallen heroes of law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the line of duty. This year’s 32nd Annual Candlelight Vigil will continue the tradition with a virtual ceremony.

Over 300 men and women will be added to the 22,611 existing names on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall in Washington.

In solidarity with our community of active law enforcement, surviving families and co-workers, and thousands of citizens across the globe, we invite you to join us to participate in this solemn occasion.

May Day Action to Demand A Fair Budget

Hundreds of thousands of people across the state are suffering from intertwining crises over the last year, which have exposed and exacerbated longstanding systemic inequalities in Connecticut. Join Recovery for All CT for a May Day action in front of the Governor’s Mansion to demand that Gov. Lamont pass a budget that repairs our broken tax structure, makes a dramatic investment in our communities and lays the foundation for rebuilding a better and more equitable Connecticut.

Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-Conn.) joined Council 4 members in praising the benefits of the American Rescue Plan (ARP), a landmark law that is already benefitting communities across the state as the coronavirus pandemic continues into its second year.

The law, signed by President Joe Biden last month, was made possible by everyday workers who raised their union voice to demand real action from the federal government.

On Saturday, April 17 over 100 low-wage workers, CT Department of Labor (CT DOL) employees, Council 4 members, and community partners, all of whom are members of the Recovery For All coalition, rallied to demand increased funding for the CT DOL.

Higher Education Unions' "March for the Future"

For years, campus officials and politicians have forced austerity, privatization, divestment and consolidation on Connecticut's public colleges and universities. This effort is part of coordinated efforts to secure the resources needed to assure our students access to the quality and affordable higher education they deserve.
