Meriden CT AFL-CIO "Labor 2018" Campaign Walk

The Connecticut AFL-CIO is organizing door-to-door canvasses in local communities across the state to allow union members to volunteer and get involved in supporting labor-endorsed candidates. These activities will focus on competitive races for legislature, the U.S. House of Representatives and state constitutional offices on the August 14 Primary Election ballot.

CT AFL-CIO Biennial Political Convention

Members of Council 4 Connecticut-affiliated unions are invited to attend the 12th biennial political convention of the Connecticut AFL-CIO. This year’s convention has been split between three non-consecutive days – one on April 6, the next on June 22, and a final half day on August 31.

CT AFL-CIO Labor Day Breakfast

The Connecticut AFL-CIO Labor Day Breakfast is an opportunity to honor the contributions of labor to society and reflect on the struggles and rich traditions of the CT labor movement.

Please join us on Friday, August 31st at 8:00 AM as workers from our diverse federation come together to recommit to fighting for a strong labor movement. We also want to recognize the hard work of our local unions as we continue to fight for all workers in Connecticut.

Cost: $30 per person

Election Primary

Polls across Connecticut are open for primary elections for statewide constitutional offices as well as federal congressional and state legislative seats.

Registered voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots for candidates from their registered political party only for:

Members of the Council 4 Delegate Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favor of a recommendation from our PEOPLE political action committee to formally endorse Ned Lamont in the 2018 gubernatorial election.

Delegates to our special June 12 meeting also accepted recommendations to endorse William Tong for Attorney General, Shawn Wooden for Treasurer, Jahana Hayes for Congress in the 5th District and several candidates for State Senate and State Representative.

A Republican legislative leader last week launched a politically motivated media attack on gains made by state employee unions. At issue are contractual bonuses due later this month as part of a 2017 agreement to protect jobs, extend benefits and preserve services. In reality, the true targets are the collective bargaining rights that secured them — rights which face an uncertain future in the wake of a recent U.S.

The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday issued its long-anticipated ruling in the Janus v. AFSCME Council 31 lawsuit — one that favors billionaires out to destroy America's labor movement. The 5-4 decision overturned a four decades-old precedent and has long been the goal of a shadowy network of deep-pocketed political operatives.
