About Us

We are AFSCME Local 991

AFSCME Local 991 consists of seven bargaining units from both the Town of Manchester and Manchester Board of Education. Currently, we are in the process of adding new bargaining units from within the Board of Education and the Manchester Eighth Utilities District. We are proud to be the voice of Manchester public service workers!

Local 991 consists of a wide range of Town of Manchester and Manchester Public School employees: administrative assistants, secretarial, clerical and IT associates; police dispatchers; engineering and survey technicians; cafeteria workers; police data operators; health and construction inspectors; librarians; custodians and building maintenance personnel; police services aides; school monitors and guards; and building inspectors.

We are involved in many charity events involving youth sports, MHS band, veteran organizations and other community events. Annually, we conduct a food and toy drive to benefit MACC Charities.

Our members work hard to ensure are residents of the Town of Manchester and students of Manchester Public Schools are taken care of appropriately. We are also proudly affiliated with Council 4 AFSCME, the voice of 30,000 workers throughout Connecticut.
