Killingly Paras Ratify New Contract

Killingly, CT, March 26, 2018 – Killingly school paraprofessionals, members of AFSCME Local 3689, are deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of the children in their classrooms.

After months of intense bargaining, they now have a contract that reflects their commitment after overwhelmingly ratifying a three-year contract agreement with the Killingly Board of Education.

The agreement includes general wage increases totaling 7.53% over the life of the contract and protects the pay differential for those paraprofessionals who duties or assignments include handling the complex and physical needs of special education students. It also compresses the previously used salary schedule to allow more movement up the pay ladder and strengthens seniority language.

In addition, the contract allows Killingly paraprofessionals the option of keeping their Preferred Provider Plan for another year before moving to a health savings account.

Council 4 Staff Representative Tricia Santos served as the Local Union’s advocate during negotiations.

The Local 3689 Negotiating Team included President Cheryl Rucki, Vice President Michelle Pion, Secretary Courtney Poirier, Recording Secretary Diane Peterson, Treasurer Debra Manoogian and Executive Board Members Robin Miller, Jill Ouillette and Elizabeth Sierakowski. Their hard work and dedication made a big difference.
