The (AFSCME) Green Thumb

Local 2663 members Emily Mellon, Jonathan Alberto, Paul Bellantuono, Scott Mason and Marybeth Hill.

Need a beautiful hanging plant for Mother's Day? Or just looking to spruce up your home garden now that spring has finally arrived.

Then check out the seasonal Greenhouse Sale that starts May 1 on the grounds of Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown.

CVH launched the program more than 15 years ago as a way to help patients rehabilitate and regain confidence. Vocational rehabilitation counselors who are members of Local 2663 (P-2 State Human and Social Services) teach patients how to plant and harvest flowers and vegetables.

Patients earn the state minimum wage. And taxpayers win, too, as proceeds from the hospital's quarterly greenhouse sales benefit the patient activity fund.

The CVH Greenhouse Sale begins May 1, 2015 and is open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until items are sold out. The greenhouse grounds are located at 11 Flood St. in Middletown, at the base of the CVH campus.
