Meet the Officers of Local 704

TAFFY WOMACK 
PRESIDENT 

I have been a valued State of Connecticut employees for 23 years. My current position is Administrative Assistant working for the Secretary of the State’s office in the Legislative and Election Administration Division (LEAD).

Having been a member of AFSCME Local 704 since February 1994, I was pleased to accept a position as a Union Steward in 2004 under new leadership. In 2005 I was offered a position on the Executive Board as Corresponding Secretary and I have also held the position of Recording Secretary and Vice President.  I currently serve as President for AFSCME Local 704 and Vice-President representing AFSCME Clerical Workers on the AFL-CIO Executive Board; in addition, I am a delegate for AFSCME Council 4 in New Britain, a delegate to the AFSCME International Convention, the Hartford Labor Council and the National Pride at Work. My civic affiliation includes membership in the Greater Hartford Branch NAACP and former service as an Executive Committee Member in the capacity of Assistant Secretary.
 

My position on the AFSCME Local 704 Executive Board and the extensive training I have received has enhanced my understanding and awareness of the union. I am here to represent you, the members of AFSCME Local 704 and extend my gratitude and appreciation for you giving me the opportunity to serve as President.

MAXINE COLEMAN
I have been an employee of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and an AFSCME Local 704 Member for 21 years. My title is Processing Technician in the Bureau of Financial & Support Services, Central Permit Processing Unit. I served as Treasurer for the DEP African-American Coalition from 1998-2000. I am presently the Treasurer for the Black History Month Committee and am also, the Fundraiser Chairperson for the DEP Activities Planning Committee. From 1995 until 1999, I served as Director of Public Relations for the Bloomfield Pershing Park Community Group. I am presently the Women’s Ministries Coordinator and the Director of Hospitality for the Three Angles Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Newington, CT. My background in the public trust qualifies me to hold the honored position of Trustee for the past 5 years for the AFSCME Local 704.

SHARON ROWE-JOHNSON
I am currently a Processing Technician with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and I have been a DEP employee and AFSCME Member for the past 22 years. I have a degree in Liberal Arts Studies. I have been a Notary Public in the State of Connecticut for 7 years and Trustee for AFSCME Local 704 for over 5 years.
