"A Sea of AFSCME Green"

State Rep. Larry Butler, center, with members Theresa Rinaldi and Sue Swirsky (Local 478) Dorigene LaRosa (Local 562) and Steve Curran (Local 1565).

"This is the people's house!"

That was the message our elected officials heard loud and clear May 8 when 300 AFSCME members in green shirts flooded the State Capitol to remind our legislators that we elected them to fight for working people.

Members from Stamford to Mansfield to Torrington to Deep River turned out to support protecting public services by closing tax loopholes that benefit the very rich and corporations, expanding retirement security for all workers, raising the minimum wage, and making labor history a part of the public school curriculum.

And they were heard.

Among those listening were Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman and State Senate President Donald Williams, all of whom brought messages of appreciation as they urged our members to make their voices heard in tough economic times.

There was a sea of Council 4 Green at the Capitol.

Be sure to have your voice heard by emailing your State Senator and State Representative about the need to expand retirement security to all workers.
